Day 16 - 19 Thailand Rode Trip

05-12-09 Day 19 Thailand Road Trip - Phitsanulok

Breakfast at the hotel and we headed
to the Sergeant Major Thawee Folk Museum using our GPS map.

We had no trouble finding it after we asked one person. Our GPS locator was about a block off.

We paid the 50 TB each and
entered this nice compound with five well keep buildings that showcased the collection of many Thai treasures.

The place is beautiful.
We spent several hours looking at all the things in
the collection.

Everything from traps for catching monkeys to teeter totters.

Then, there are lamps and
one just like Daeng's Father used to smoke opium.
There was also a collection of tools to clean the meat out of coconuts.

The garden areas where very well kept, as well.
After we saw as much as we could and I almost fell sliding across the polished wood floors like I was ice skating, Daeng said she would like to see the Buddhist Foundry.

05-11-09 Day 18 Thailand Road Trip - Phitsanulok

We got up early, had breakfast in the hotel and headed for the City of Khon Kam.
We made it to Khon Kan, about 200 km on route 2 and then headed west on route 12.

We stopped for lunch at this little road side stand where we say smoke. When we see smoke we
figure there is barbecue something. Sure enough there was barbecued chicken along with sticky rice and som-tom papaya salad.

We ate like pigs and had two chickens, a big papaya salad and sticky rice. We could hardly move after eating and it was only 210 TB (about $6.30 in US dollars).

We drove the rest of the way to Phitsanulok and checked into an old eleven story hotel, Amarin Hakhon Hotel, in the heart of the city.
The hotel was old but nicely appointed and we had a great view over the city.

We settled in and then took a walk about three blocks away to the night market. Daeng found a skirt that she liked for 180 TB.

Shopping is fun.

We ate at the night market and headed back to the room.

Tomorrow we are going to visit three places here, the Sergeant Major Thawee Folk Museum, a Buddha casting foundry and a Buddhist Temple that house the second most famous Buddha. The most famous Buddha is the jade Buddha.

The Sergeant-Major Dr. Thawee Buranakhet Folklore Museum hosts a collection of folk arts, crafts, basketry, pottery and ancient kitchen utensils. The museum also houses a collection of traps for catching snakes, birds, tigers and porcupines.

Of course there is always the Terry Buddha!

This is also the last city in Thailand that you can live on a house boat.

05-10-09 Day 17 Thailand Road Trip - Khorat

We traveled about 200 km to a small town of
Chanthaburi along the southern coast of Thailand and about 35 km from the Cambodia border. We then headed north to the City of Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat).

We spent the night is a fairly new hotel with a nice pool.

We were so tired that we decided not to swim.

05-09-09 Day 16 Thailand Road Trip - Pattaya

It is a beautiful Sunday here in Pattaya. We started the day with a nice walk on the beach. Something was a little different this morning, for some reason there were no
"ladyboys" hanging out on the end of the street trying to make a little more money for the night. I'm not judging, I'm just saying.

We walked up to Walking Street and stopped into a little hotel off the street. I had most of the writing in what I think is Russian. It also has a nice little fresh water swimming pool.

We checked with the desk and the rate for a night is 600 TB during this low season. That is about $18.00 USD a night.

We looked at a room and it was nicely furnished and of good size. Daeng and I figured we would try the place for a few days when we return the end of the month. The place is the "Honey Inn".

We spent the rest of the day just resting up for the start of our trip north tomorrow.
